Miglior Fabbro is a jewelry design project inspired by my favorite books.
Each ring is inspired by a literary heroine, and designed to reflect the qualities of her character. All rings are made-to-order in New York City.
The idea for Miglior Fabbro began when I was in graduate school, and I felt like I was drowning in words. In all the thinking I was doing about books, I had forgotten what I loved about reading. So I returned to my favorite novels for inspiration, and was amazed by the non-verbal texture of great stories, how readily my imagination filled in the shapes and colors of the physical world conjured by lines of text.
I began sketching rings to create something tangible, something wearable, from my own literary experience, and I called the project Miglior Fabbro, which means “the better craftsman.” It’s originally a quote from Dante, but when T.S. Eliot dedicated The Waste Land to his friend and editor Ezra Pound, he referred to him as il miglior fabbro. I love the association it forges (seewhatIdidthere) between the written word and any other raw material.
